CEO & CIO, U.S. Global Investors — Roundtable 100 Blue Ribbon Committee
Frank Holmes is CEO and chief investment officer of U.S. Global Investors (NASDAQ: GROW), a publicly traded investment management firm based in San Antonio, Texas. Canadian-born and a graduate of the University of Western Ontario in economics, Holmes purchased a controlling interest in the firm in 1989 and took over as chief investment officer a decade later, building it into a specialist manager known for natural resources, gold and precious metals, and, more recently, disruptive technology and digital assets.
In 2015, Holmes led U.S. Global Investors into the ETF business with the launch of the U.S. Global Jets ETF, giving retail investors direct exposure to the global airline sector, a category he had tracked closely for years. Two years later, he steered the firm into crypto mining infrastructure with a strategic investment in HIVE Blockchain Technologies, becoming the company's non-executive chairman; HIVE went on to become one of the first publicly traded companies mining both Bitcoin and Ethereum at industrial scale.
Holmes's reputation rests on spotting cyclical turns early: he was named Mining Fund Manager of the Year by the Mining Journal in 2006 and a U.S. Metals and Mining "TopGun" by Brendan Wood International in 2011. He is also a former president and chairman of the Toronto Society of the Investment Dealers Association.
On the Roundtable 100 Blue Ribbon Committee, Holmes pairs old-economy resource expertise with early conviction on crypto infrastructure, giving the panel a bridge between commodities and next-generation assets.
